About Epiduo

How Epiduo® Gel Works

The combination of the two powerful anti-acne medications in Epiduo® Gel—adapalene (0.1%) and benzoyl peroxide (2.5%)—is a one-of-a-kind treatment that helps:

  • Work on existing acne by reducing blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples
  • Prevent new acne from forming by helping to clear clogged pores and stop the formation of “microcomedone” —the starting point of the acne
  • Reduce inflammation (the cause of those red bumps and pimples) associated with acne
  • Reduce acne-causing bacteria (another starting point of pimples)

Epiduo® Gel works differently than other products because it is the only treatment that contains adapalene and benzoyl peroxide in a single product. A major benefit of benzoyl peroxide is that it’s not an antibiotic, so it hasn’t been shown to promote bacterial resistance. (When resistance occurs, bacteria that contribute to acne may no longer respond to the antibiotic.) If you and your doctor decide you require long-term treatment, Epiduo® Gel has been proven effective for up to 12 months. Because adapalene is not available over-the-counter, you can only get Epiduo® Gel by prescription. So speak to your doctor or dermatologist about whether it is time to start using Epiduo® Gel for your acne.

It’s important to keep in mind that only a doctor can diagnose whether or not you have acne and can determine the right treatment. Your doctor can help you decide if Epiduo® Gel is right for you, or you can find a dermatologist now.
